Style – Neha (November 2009) http://cineplot.com/gallery/style-neha/ http://cineplot.com/gallery/style-neha/#comments Sun, 24 Oct 2010 22:31:44 +0000 admin http://cineplot.com/gallery/?p=1244 Sana Safinaz create the magic of clothes that transform as days blend into long, sexy nights. In this fabulous autumn/winter collection are featured embroidered shirts that dazzle under the spirit of stones and sequins; they are a dressed up version of the labels’ summer kaftans. There are also evening gowns that play with silks and chiffons and flow like waterfalls, lending movement to a woman’s body. Movement is what fashion has been about this year and whether it is moving from day to night, casual to formal or even western to eastern, movement has been the Sana Safinaz signature for years. They have won the Lux Style Award for Best Couture this year and the best thing is that they are moving up and ahead with it.

Designer: Sane Safinaz

Make-up, photography, styling and coordination: 360 degrees (Guddu & Shani)

Jayashree Talpade

Jayashree and Meena T (“T” stands for Talpade, their surname), sisters, began as junior artistes. Jayashree later chose to specialize in dancing (particularly sexy dances) and was an instant success: she is considered among the best dancers on the Hindi screen today. Meena, the elder of the two, showed a flair for acting (“Umang”, “Khilona”, “Jungle Mein Mangal”). Both have a number of assignments on hand – June, 1973

Padma Khanna

In film vocabulary, “hot” dance numbers and Padma Khanna are synonymous – everybody likes her dances, except Padma herself (that’s what she says anyway). After the “Johny” number producers want her to strip more and more, and poor Padma has willy nilly to do it. The dusky actress had pinned her hopes on films like the forthcoming “Soudagar”, in which she has to do some acting too – June, 1973

Faryal

Faryal

“…Believe me it isn’t a common experience having one’s bra opened by Shatrughan Sinha. It is a very, very different experience. He is simply fabulous… “The mere recounting of her beroom scenes with Shatrughan in “Heera” seemed to send Faryal into a fit of ecstasy.

We hoped he doesn’t oversteps the limits of the script on such occasions.

“Shatru?” No. Premnath does. In ‘Gold Medal’ there is a scene-of both of us lying on a sofa. But during the shot he rolled down on to the carpet taking me along with him! Believe me, that wasn’t in the script. Several minutes passed and still the shot was not getting over. Everyone including the director Ravi Nagaich and Jeetendra, was watching the fun and having a good laugh when I got up and shouted ‘Will someone say cut, bloody soon?’ Premnath was the least bothered himself: poor chap, he gets drowned in his roles. I am terrified to work with him. Though I know he is a tremendous artist.” – June, 1973

Bindu

Bindu

Bindu is the femme fatale, that character without whom none of our films can seemingly be complete, and she generally goes hand-in-hand with Prem Chopra. She has brought a sort of effortless bitchiness to her roles – whether the scene’s a cabaret, striptease, or just throwing seductive glances – and it has caught the fancy of both producers and audiences. Following “Dastaan” she has a number of straight acting assignments – June, 1973

Helen

Helen

Never mind Cuckoo, we can take Helen. The corn complexion glows, it doesn’t seem just the pallor left by countless hours of make-up under hot lights. And she bubbles like the champagne they didn’t pour into those glasses on the “Sachchai” cabaret sets – they poured Helen instead. Helen really does work on her dances. That’s why she remains at the top despite all the competition – June, 1973

Karan Dewan

He rode a camel to school and a train to Calcutta for his first starring assignment in “Bhakt Dhruv.” Born in Gujranwalla, West Punjab, on November 6, 1917, Dewan Karan  Chopra, had always wanted to be an actor. After his work in the devotional, he came to Bombay to work in films, but failed to get contracts. Disappointed, he returned to Delhi and tried for a job in All-India Radio, also the Navy. He was meanwhile offered the lead in the Punjabi film “Mere Mahi,” which he took.

Karan then made a second trip to Bombay and again seemed doomed to disappointment. But the lead role he got in “Tamanna” was a bright spot. That year three of his starring vehicles, “Bhai Jan,” “Zeenat” and “Rattan,” became jubilee hits. His best assignments have been in “Chaman” (Punjabi), “Lahore”, “Dahez” and “Teen Batti Char Rasta” Among forthcoming films in which he stars are “Musafirkhana”, “Unchi Haveli”, “Jalwa”, “Laaj”, “Birhan”, “Char Deewaren” and “Jhoote Sapne” – Filmfare August 1955
