Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Capsule Review: This mega money-spinner for the Rajshri banner featured completely untried faces, not just in the lead but also at the periphery where Sanjay Khan appeared in a romantic sub-plot. But the main plot featured two unknown actors Sushil Kumar and Sudhir Kumar as physically challenged friends struggling to survive with dignity in the concrete jungle. There was only one star in this roaring hit. And that was Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s music. Though designed as a commercial drama, Dosti broke several rules of mainstream cinema. Like Satyen Bose’s other films (Chalti Ka Naam Gadi, Jeevan Mrityu, Bandish, Aasra and Mere Bhaiya) bonds that take individuals beyond family ties were very important to Dosti. The film celebrated the theme of friendship in a language that remains relevant and desirable to this day.
