Style – Shashikala
A pretty Sholapur-born Maharashtrian girl used to see every Indian film which came to Sholapur and, at the age of fourteen, she herself appeared on the screen. Her name was Shashikala and she landed a part in the famous Qawaali scene in “Zeenat”, when her family came to live it—Bombay. This helped her to secure important roles in “Jugnu” and “Doli,” also a dance sequence in “Pugree”.
Playing heroine for the first time in “Thes”, Shashikala also featured in “Nazaare”, “Preet Ka Geet”, “Rupaiya”, and “Arzoo”. Some of her important films after this were “Sargam,” “Jeevan Jyoti,” “Chacha Choudhury,” “Teen Batti Char Rasta,” “Daku,” “Surang” and “Samaj”. At the present moment Shashikala is the heroine in “Krorepati,” which her husband is producing. She also stars in “Local Train,” “Sabse Bada Rupaiya” and “Sauda.” – August, 1955
